Professional Bio:

Luis has over 25 years of professional experience, including 20 years coordinating environmental projects related to climate change, biodiversity, natural resources, and clean energy. His professional and academic background has provided him with a solid understanding of environmental issues in Central America, particularly in areas such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services, sustainable development, environmental and land use planning, wetlands, coastal management, nature-based tourism, reforestation and deforestation, clean energy, and international environmental conventions (CBD, UNFCCC, CITES), among others. He also has administrative experience in both the private sector and non-profit organizations.

Currently, Luis works for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where he manages biodiversity and climate change regional activities in Central America.

He is a confident communicator, capable of engaging with groups from diverse academic and social backgrounds. Luis has experience in formal, non-formal, and informal education, having spent three years in the United States as a college professor of biology, teaching both science majors and non-scientific disciplines. His experience managing environmental issues has enabled him to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including communities, civil society, political entities, and academic organizations, both nationally and internationally. He has collaborated with organizations such as UNDP, the World Bank, and USAID.

Luis's combined professional and academic experience has given him a broad understanding of global climate change challenges and mitigation and adaptation strategies, including carbon markets, land use change, and land tenure issues. His Mexican and Central American roots provide him with deep insight into both international commonalities and regional nuances.

He is fluent in English and Spanish, with basic knowledge of Portuguese and French. Luis is a reliable, results-oriented professional with a strong passion for nature, human rights, continuous learning, and integrity.
