Professional Bio:
Patrick Webb has worked extensively on food policy, nutrition research, humanitarian emergencies, and climate change interactions with food systems. He holds the prestigeous Alexander MacFarlane endowed chair in the Friedman School of Nutrition at Tufts University, where he served as the School’s Dean for Academic Affairs for 9 years. He recently served as Chief Nutritionist for the US Agency for International Development (USAID), overseeing nutrition priorities and strategies across the agency.
He holds a Ph.D. in Geography from Birmingham University in England and has been a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society since 1982. He is widely published (210+ peer-reviewed journal articles), dealing with gender roles in agricultural development, impacts of multisector nutrition programming, mycotoxin contamination of foods leading to impaired birth outcomes, and challenges involved in simultaneously addressing human and planetary health.
In terms of international roles, Patrick currentlyu sits on the Steering Committee of the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (the HLPE) of the Committee on World Food Security. He is also a commissioner serving on the Eat-Lancet 2.0 Commission. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the Science Council of the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research (the CGIAR), worked in Rome as Chief of Nutrition for the United Nations World Food Programme, and was a Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
